I love sharing some of the great work done by my students…..and here’s another fabulous fiber collage that I’m thrilled to bring to you. For more examples of student work, check out the Student Gallery.

terri-ring1

TERRI RING,  Spokane, Washington

Terri was a student in my home  Studio Workshop, Creating with Collage. She came with a vision of what she wanted to depict, but just didn’t know how to show it. If fact, her vision was so clear she even wrote a wonderful poem describing her inspiration. As you can see…..during the course of our three-day workshop, her idea came to life, and she did a fabulous job of using color and stitching to create her first piece of fiber  art. Great job, Terri. I can’t wait to see what comes next. I think you’re definitely on a creative roll!!

I’m  so pleased to bring you this fabulous addition to the student gallery. I’m always so proud when one of my students sends me a photo of their finished work…..and this is a great one.  Enjoy

lynne-gettelfinger-rock-hill-sc

Lynn Gettelfinger,  Rock Hill, SC

Lynn was a student in my Design First Studior Workshop, and this very lovely piece was actually the final project in our two day class. It was meant to be an excercise, not necessarily a finished art piece. Lynn’s piece, however, was such a success that she finished it and mounted it on a painted canvas. I love her blend of colors and the motion she creates with the placement of her collage pieces. Very nice work, Lynn.

What a great quilt. I love showing you some of the fabulous quilts made by my students, and this is certainly one of them.

landscape-6.jpg

Landscape by Ruth Meyers.

Ruth was a student at Quilting by the Lake in New York State this past summer. She started with a traditional landscape photo, but her quilt is very contemporary and abstract. Excellent work, Ruth.  Her stitching in each area is very detailed and expertly done. Here are a few stitching details. Be sure and click on the larger image to get the full effect.

STUDENT GALLERY….and a little help!

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

You know how I love receiving photos of finished projects from my students. It’s one of my favorite rewards of teaching….finally getting to see the finished product.  Here are several more great examples……there’s a problem with the first one, however……I’ve managed to delete the name of the maker!

Help! If this is your quilt…or if you know whose it is, I’d love including the name along with the photo. My apologies….don’t ask me how I managed to save the photo but not the name….but somehow I did. A computer wizard I am not….in fact just doing my blog is a great accomplishment!

sensation-sunflowers-2.jpg

Sensation Sunflowers

This is the mystery quilt…or rather who is the mystery maker? It’s a great quilt….and an example of my Painting with Pieces technique. She did a very nice job of blending colors to create the blended effect.

charlotte-freeman-ridgecrest-ca-2.jpg

Charlotte Freeman …..Ridgecrest, CA

This bold and exciting quilt is a great example of my Blended Border technique. I love her choice of fabric……Koi that are stitched on the border to create the blended effect. Very nice job!

MORE STUDENT WORK

Monday, January 7th, 2008

Here’s more great work done by my  students. I’m always so happy when they send me a shot of their finished project….I think I’ve said this before, but sometimes when I see the name come in on my email, I don’t remember it ….but as soon as I see the quilt, I remember. I may have trouble with the name or the face….but not the quilt! Thanks for sending me your photos, everyone.

susan-teece-victoria-4.jpg

Susan Teece    Victoria, BC Canada

Great job, Susan. She did a wonderful job of blending her colors by using lots and lots of shades and prints in each color. She was a student in a color blending class and really learned the principles well. I particularly love her vivid, dramatic colors.

amy-fitzpatrick-burlington-ma.jpg

Amy Fitzpatrick   Burlington, MA

Looks good enough to eat, huh! Amy created a beautiful harvest wall quilt using my Blended Borders technique. In fact, she’s really taken off with this technique and has sent me photos of several other great quilts she’s created using it. Good work, girl!

STUDENT WORK II

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Here’s more great work from my students…..to see others, check out the Student Gallery category. I’m always thrilled when students send me photos….as a teacher it’s a great reward to see the finished products after watching them take shape in the class.

These are absolutely great……Enjoy them!

 gayle-noyce-coeur-dalene.jpg

Gayle Noyce – Coeur d’Alene, ID

I love the drama and daring of this collage quilt. I’m a big fan of bold and brave…and this quilt is definitely both! It has a very painterly look, and I hope Gayle is enjoying it hanging in her home somewhere!

susan-staton-anacortes.jpg

Susan Statton   Anacortes, WA

WOW….this is the back view of a vest Susan created using the basics of my blended background class with raw-edge appliqued roses added. I’m so pleased when someone takes the class basics…and creates something uniquely their own . This will be a show-stopper wherever she wears it…..and you will wear it, right, Susan?

suan-statton-front.jpg

And here’s the front.  What a sophisticated and one-of-a-kind looking garment.

Keep checking….. I’ll be adding more student work periodically. Those of you who haven’t sent me a photo……I’d love to receive it!!!!

STUDENT GALLERY

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

One of my favorite things about traveling around the country teaching quilting classes, is the fabulous work I see coming together in my classes.  The worst part is that usually there isn’t time to finish it all in classs and I often don’t get to see the finished product.

I love it when students send me photos of the finished pieces that they’ve started in my classes….and I’m pleased to be showing you a few of them now. I’ll be adding to this section on my blog….so if you’re a former student….or just a someone who’s given your own look to one of the quilts in my books…….please, please, please….send me photos!

cheryl-rosati-west-springfield-ma.jpg

 Cheryl Rosati

West, Springfield, MA

Absolutely elegant. This quilt is from my Garden Wreath class from my book Scatter Garden Quilts. Cheryl did a wonderful job of giving this design her own personal look.

karen-fleek-bag-2.jpg

Karen Fleek

Chelan, WA

As I recall, Karen was a true bag lady….a lover of bags…which I am too! She did a fabulous job of using raw-edged applique and stitching to create this beauty.

linda-riesterer-missoula-2.jpg

Linda Riesta

Missoula, MT

Look at that glitz and glitter! Linda was in my embellishing workshop and she created a wonderful look  combining raw-edged applique and decorating threads. What a lovely, eye-catching quilt.

patti-eaton-dayton-wa.jpg

If Wishes Were Fishes…….that’s what Patti titled this wonderful collage quilt. I happen to know this person pretty well……and she definitely worked out of her comfort zone to create this quilt…..and deserves a medal for it!. Thinking out of the box can take a little courage….but in this case the results were worth it.

More to come…..keep checking….
